Earlier in the week I attended the grand opening of a great new real estate office in Northampton, MA called Pedal to Properties.
Franchise owner and real estate broker Craig Della Penna — a long-time rail trail advocate, spokesman, and active supporter of rail trail development — specializes in properties located next to rail trails. In fact, for a long time he and his wife Kathleen have owned and operated the Sugar Maple Trailside Inn in Northampton's village of Florence.
Greetings Touring Cyclists!
Foliage in New England
The fall is in full swing in New England. Cool breezy days and the golden colors of the season are spreading through the forests. Still warm enough however to spend some time out there amidst it all on your bike.

A small company called
Urban AdvenTours in the city of Boston is offering a special guided bicycle tour this season. They'll guide you through the Emerald Necklace — 7 miles of greenspaces spread across the city — and just in time to enjoy what will no doubt be the peak week for foliage in this coastal city.
I just rode on this bike tour and I had a great time! You can find out more about the

Rail Trail Foliage

Another fun thing to do this time of year is to spend several hours riding on your local rail trail — assuming you are lucky enough to have one nearby. A friend and I took a ride on the Nashua River Rail Trail this past Saturday and the foliage there was near peak. Absolutely beautiful! Along the trail are several wetlands and we were lucky enough to watch a young great blue heron feeding. If you've never seen a great blue heron, they are amazing birds!
So make it a point to get out on your bike during the coming week and enjoy the foliage. What better, healthier way can you think of to get your workout in and enjoy the delights of the fall!
The fall is here and the leaves are beginning to change colors. After some lingering "summery" days in the 80's, the temperatures are becoming more fall-like. Kind of sad to finally have to say goodbye to summer, but such is life.
Along with cooler temps comes the annual blast of red, orange, and yellow colors in our foliage. We hope to post some great images from the area this season. In particular, some shots of the Berkshires — the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail — and New Hampshire.
Please take some photos of the change-of-season in your area and send them to us. Or better yet, sign-up as a member in our Community Area and upload them yourself!
Well even though Linda and I were teased a bit a couple of weeks ago by warm weather here in the northeast, old man winter just keeps hanging on. But we made the best of it and had a great ride in the Pepperell and Groton, MA area on Saturday.
The Nashua River Rail Trail still had long stretches of snow cover and fallen trees across parts of it, so we made our own way along area roads. All in all a beautiful day and a great first day back on our bikes.
We had been doing morning yoga every day during the winter, and it was really nice how we were totally pain free after our ride.
