Returned to bicycle on the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail today as promised after our first visit during the spring of this year. So beautiful to be there again during the fall foliage season. During the drive over on Rte 116 from Amherst, the hill towns of the Pioneer Valley were past their peak in terms of foliage — many trees already wearing their winter "clothes". There is still quite a bit of color to enjoy, in Ashfield and Cummington, and elsewhere, too, and especially in the Adams, MA area.

Although it was a bit cool (temps in the mid 40s) it was still a very nice day for a bike ride. There were quite a few others on the trail to confirm that.

I was able to get some nice photos which I've posted in our Community photo area. I'd also like to invite you to register as a member sign up as a member. It's free! I hope you enjoy the photos, and do get out there on your bike and enjoy the colors of fall in person!"

Greetings Touring Cyclists!

Foliage in New England

The fall is in full swing in New England. Cool breezy days and the golden colors of the season are spreading through the forests. Still warm enough however to spend some time out there amidst it all on your bike.

A small company called Urban AdvenTours in the city of Boston is offering a special guided bicycle tour this season. They'll guide you through the Emerald Necklace — 7 miles of greenspaces spread across the city — and just in time to enjoy what will no doubt be the peak week for foliage in this coastal city.

I just rode on this bike tour and I had a great time! You can find out more about the Emerald Necklace and Fall Foliage tour by reading this review...

Rail Trail Foliage

Another fun thing to do this time of year is to spend several hours riding on your local rail trail — assuming you are lucky enough to have one nearby. A friend and I took a ride on the Nashua River Rail Trail this past Saturday and the foliage there was near peak. Absolutely beautiful! Along the trail are several wetlands and we were lucky enough to watch a young great blue heron feeding. If you've never seen a great blue heron, they are amazing birds!

So make it a point to get out on your bike during the coming week and enjoy the foliage. What better, healthier way can you think of to get your workout in and enjoy the delights of the fall!

The fall is here and the leaves are beginning to change colors. After some lingering "summery" days in the 80's, the temperatures are becoming more fall-like. Kind of sad to finally have to say goodbye to summer, but such is life.

Along with cooler temps comes the annual blast of red, orange, and yellow colors in our foliage. We hope to post some great images from the area this season. In particular, some shots of the Berkshires — the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail — and New Hampshire.

Please take some photos of the change-of-season in your area and send them to us. Or better yet, sign-up as a member in our Community Area and upload them yourself!
