TRIP DATES: Feb 27, 2010 - Mar 05, 2010
LOCATION: San Diego, California
The Adventure Cycling Association just released their full bicycle touring slate for 2010 and included in it are the new dates for their popular California Winter Warmer, a late winter/early spring road bike tour through Southern California from Chula Vista (San Diego) down to Borrego Springs and back! The trip dates are from February 27th through March 5th, 2010.
Averaging around 50 miles per day, this tour begins in Chula Vista, California. You'll make your way around the Lower Otay Reservoir and climb up to the Pinezanita Campground, in the Laguna Mountains. Riding east, you'll head toward Borrego Springs, a small art-town completely surrounded by the 600,000-acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
The group will then stage out of Borrego Springs over the next few days, pedaling a rolling loop to Salton City — with an optional ride up and over Yaqui Pass Road. As an alternative, you could decide to do some sightseeing and shopping, visiting the many galleries, shops, and museums that Borrego Springs has to offer.
The final leg is to bicycle back to Pinezanita, and then into Chula Vista via the Sunrise Highway.
This tour features catered meals, is fully supported, and the accommodations are "camping". Optional rides are available on rest days. This is a ride for intermediate-level riders and will leave you well prepared for the summer cycling season! You can find out more about the trip and sign up for this spring tune-up at the Adventure Cycling Association site.
