Review: Trek 520

Strength, Stability and Gearing to Climb Mountains

Written by The Editors

Trek's workhorse touring bike, the 520 is battle-tested and has a lot of very good features.

The 520's steel frame is strong and durable. A good thing about steel frames is that they are also more forgiving which makes long days in the saddle less taxing. The frame's angles are relaxed for stable handling when loaded.

Top on the list of features are the triple chainrings matched with an 11-32 cassette which means you have gears low enough to climb over mountains with heavy cargo.

Trek 520 Touring BicycleThe 520 also comes with a rear rack already installed and the fork has braze-on mounts to accommodate front racks and fenders.

  1. I have loved my trek 520. I am a small woman so it didn't "fit" perfectly. None the less it is a great sturdy bike that I have thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend that they make a woman specific 520.
